Martinsville police identify person of interest in late-night shooting

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Martinsville police are investigating several possible motives after a man was shot in the leg.

It happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday on the 200 block of Rives Road.

Police say there was a verbal exchange between two men, possibly stemming from an earlier party at a different location. One of the men started to leave the home on Rives Road and turned, firing several shots and hitting one man in the leg.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s with a short afro or plaits with gold or light colored tips. Police have identified a person of interest, who may have been visiting from another nearby city. No charges have been filed yet.
