LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Liberty University introduced former Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw as it's new athletic director this afternoon. It's a move that has raised some eyebrows, with McCaw stepping down just six months ago at Baylor, amid a sexual assault scandal involving the Bears football program. That scandal cost both the school's president and Baylor's head football coach their jobs.
So WDBJ7's Zac Glover asked both McCaw and Jerry Falwell Jr, how people should respond to the hire.
Zac Glover: "What would you say to some people that might be concerned about the hire, given what happened at Baylor, what went on?"
New Liberty Athletic Director, Ian McCaw: "Yeah, I guess just a couple of things as far as Baylor goes. As it relates to interpersonal violence, my heart goes out to anyone that's been a victim of interpersonal violence. We have no place in our society for that. As far as Baylor goes, my prayer for Baylor has been for healing. I just think that it's a very difficult situation, and I wish them the best."
Zac Glover: "All the stuff that happened at Baylor, what would you say to that?"
Liberty University President, Jerry Falwell, Jr.:: "Oh, if he made any mistakes, they were completely technical in nature, not intentional. Our due diligence revealed that he was welcome to stay there, if he had chosen to do so. If you look at his career at four or five different universities, it's a stellar career. There's just no-- there's nothing to any of that."
