Montgomery County Christmas Store opens, food shelves now fully stocked

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) About 4,000 people are expected to get help from the Montgomery County Christmas Store this year.

The doors opened Tuesday morning for eligible folks to get clothes, toys, gifts, and food.

Everything is donated by local stores and organizations that go directly to families in Montgomery County who are in need.

"As soon as the doors open and the patrons come in you just see such a relief on their face that this organization exists for them because otherwise either them or their children would have next to nothing come Christmastime," said George Jackson, the president of the Montgomery County Christmas Store.

After our story aired last week about a big food shortage at the store, leaders now say they're fully stocked.

In only a few days the community donated more than a thousand canned foods and other items so other families won't go hungry this Christmas.
