RINER, Va. (WDBJ7) Two Montgomery County School employees got a big surprise Wednesday that their coworkers say is well deserved.

The superintendent and school board chairperson named Margaret Christle the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year.

She's the library media specialist at Auburn Middle School and has worked there for about two years.

School district leaders surprised her with the recognition as she was on lunch duty today.

"We have absolutely the best faculty and the best students and the beset library in the world doesn't mean anything if you can't get people to walk through your doors. The best accomplishment would be working with our students and teachers," Christle said.

Tom Bentley was named the 2016-2017 Support Staff Employee of the Year.

He's the senior custodian at Falling Branch Elementary School. He's worked for the school district for 32 years.
