CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Montgomery County will not raise its real estate tax this year to build new schools.
The school division had hoped to replace Belview Elementary School and Christiansburg High School. To raise money for the projects, the county budget had proposed a two-cent increase in the real estate tax rate.
Monday night, the Board of Supervisors voted 4-to-3 against advertising that tax increase. Without approval of the advertising, the tax raise cannot happen.
Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the budget April 6th.
