CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) In Montgomery County first responders are sharing their tools of the trade to help people during emergency situations.
The "Stop the Bleed" campaign uses local resources to teach area businesses, churches, and organizations how to apply a tourniquet.
Thursday a class filled with government employees and area first responders received hands-on training putting on the band and stuffing wounds with gauze.
"It may be a matter of time and this is recognition and treatment of preventable injuries. These are actual life saving techniques that are going to save people before responders can get there," said Michael Garnett, with the Western Virginia EMS Council.
Montgomery County received grant money to offer more training and tourniquet supplies to more people in the area.
