ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Bikers have some new space on Roanoke roads.
There have been almost four miles of new bike lanes put in over the summer. A portion of 5th Street, as well as 10th Street and Dale Avenue got new bike lanes. The city's transportation division manager says they place a huge priority on finding new spaces for bikes.
Mark Jamison, Transportation Division Manager, said, “It's part of a larger complete streets effort that is a national effort. It’s going to try to ensure that our streets and rights-of-way are safe for all users, not just for motor vehicles but also for bicycles, and pedestrians as well as transit users.”
The city has almost 39 lane miles for bikes, and they're working on finding even more places to put in lanes for next year.
