Most of Danville animal shelter under quarantine due to mysterious illness

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Most of the Danville animal shelter is now under quarantine because several cats have become sick.

The shelter received many cats from two different hoarding cases. Most of the cats from one of those cases were sick and have been in isolation. The issue is that the cats in the cat room are also now getting sick, and staff members do not know what they are dealing with.

The sick cats are on antibiotics and two are hospitalized. They are all being tested for calicivirus, herpes and chlamydia.

Camp Bow Wow and Camp Meow Meow in the adoption center will stay open to the public and will continue to receive incoming animals.

Anyone wanting to help can donate bleach, paper towels and hand sanitizer.
