LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) Lexington’s new police chief paid a visit to town to meet some of the citizens.

At an event sponsored by the Lexington Police Foundation, new Chief Sam Roman talked with folks at Hopkins Green in the middle of town.

He told us a little earlier that the Lexington job was the only chief’s position he had ever applied for.

“I saw this position come available which caused me to look a little deeper in it as I neared my eligibility for retirement in Roanoke," Roman said. "And as I delved deeper into Lexington and the culture here, I was more impressed every time I would dig another layer, so here I am. I thought, wow, this seems like a great place.”

Roman was a Deputy Chief with Roanoke’s Police Department. He starts in Lexington on Monday.
