DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) In Danville - new buildings are popping up all over town, which leaves lingering questions about what is going into them.
Chipotle is coming, as well as a Firehouse Subs and a new Starbucks.
Those are just a few of the ongoing projects.
Crews have been working on the building for several weeks with the help of the mild winter, even putting in time on the weekend.
It's right next to the Danville Mall on Piedmont Drive, it will soon be home to three new businesses.
"People need to eat, they need to go shop, so that helps bring in more restaurants. It just has a positive impact throughout the community," says Danville city councilman, Lee Vogler.
Piedmont Drive isn't getting all of the new business.
There are about ten active construction projects going on.
Downtown is getting attention too.
"More nightlife, more breweries and then other industries too. A lot of excitement happening in the city right now, a lot of people looking to invest in Danville," says Vogler.
Vogler says more jobs equals more benefits.
"The more jobs we can bring to our region, the more beneficial it'll be for some of the other things," he says.
He's talking about crime, education and even bringing in industry.
The more quality of life components the city has, the more likely industry will want to come.
"Just a diversified economy. We don't want to put all our eggs in one basket," he says.
Vogler says some new restaurants are going into the River District and those will be announced soon.
The new Chipotle, Firehouse Subs and Starbucks with a drive thru should be open by the fall.
