ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) There is a new landmark in Roanoke City under Interstate 581 on Tazewell Ave. The Roanoke Arts Commission and City of Roanoke revealed the murals.
The project was a year in the making and took 10 days to officially install.
Artist Brenda Councill created the piece. People from the neighborhood and Rescue Mission added their brush strokes to the larger than life piece.
"I think it was cool she included the neighbors in painting and getting it ready, its awesome, makes it even more closer to our hearts," Aaron Overg of Belmont Neighborhood Association said.
The pillars include native wild flowers and outdoor activities like biking along the Greenway.
