ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Thursday marked a major milestone for a local organization working to control the pet population in western Virginia. Mountain View Humane operates spay-neuter clinics in Christiansburg and Roanoke and performed its 50,000th surgery.
"The 50,000 number, we're very proud of, but it also indicates we've got a lot of work to do. There are many more animals out there who need these services," Mountain View Humane Executive Director Mark Brittain said.
Mountain View Humane says that those 50,000 surgeries have prevented many times that number of animals from being born into a society that doesn't have the ability to care for all of them.
