Early in the morning on November 18th the sounds of chainsaws echoed around Slaughter's Tree Farm just North of Floyd, VA. Officers from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and their families, along with a few volunteers, spent the morning cutting and stacking 175 Christmas trees.
The trees were then distributed to families that pre-purchased the trees the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Families were able to pick out their perfect tree while volunteers made wreaths from the tree trimmings. The wreaths were also sold to benefit families in Franklin County.
The goal is to raise as much money as possible and provide a Christmas dinner, clothes, and gifts for families who need it in Franklin County.
The dinner and gifts will be distributed to these families on December 22nd at the Essig Center in Rocky Mount.
