Pedestrian hit and killed in Henry County Saturday

HENRY CO., Va. (WDBJ7) According to Virginia State Police, a pedestrian was hit and killed while standing in the roadway in Henry County Saturday. The pedestrian has been identified as Jesse O'Neal Wells, 49, of Collinsville.

Police said the crash happened at 7:22 p.m. Saturday on Virginia Avenue, just 400 feet north of Eastview Drive in Henry County.

According to police, Timothy Lewis Beamer, 56, of Bassett, was driving north on Virginia Avenue in his 1995 Honda Accord when the vehicle hit Wells, who was standing in the roadway.

Wells was intoxicated at the time of the crash, police said. Wells was taken to SOVAH Health where he later died.

Police said the driver of the car, Beamer, was wearing his seat belt and was not hurt.

Virginia State Police are still investigating.
