Play encourages children to fall in love with reading

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) The National Education Association reports that children who read at home tend to have higher academic success rates. The Roanoke Children's Theatre is touring a production that encourages reading.

The RCT is brings books to life and promotes literacy. The summer tour is in its fifth year, this summer the company is producing the show "Elephant and Piggie's We are in a Play.' The show is very interactive; it includes singing, dancing, and call responses from the audiences.

"The grown ups love it and kids love it too. Even if they have never read a book by Mo Willems they are all really interested in the show," said Justin Kline of Roanoke Children's Theatre.
