Police investigating fatal moped crash in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) The Lynchburg Police have confirmed one person is dead after a moped crash yesterday.

Police received the call around 5:30 p.m. and responded to the 2800 block of Campbell Avenue.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene after crews arrived.

Police have identified him as Cedric Lamont Mays, 42, of Lynchburg.

Investigators say the moped was traveling eastbound on Campbell Avenue when he lost control, ran off the right side of the road and struck an object.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

After the crash, police closed both eastbound lanes for approximately two hours.

This crash is still under investigation at this time.
