UPDATE: Police identify boy who died after being hit by a car in Rockbridge County

ROCKBRIDGE CO., Va. (WDBJ7) UPDATE:

A 14-year-old boy riding his bike died after being hit by a car Thursday night in Rockbridge County.

The crash happened at 5:30 p.m. on Route 11 at its intersection with Route 609. A 2011 Ford Fusion was driving south on Route 11 when the driver hit a bicycle making a left turn onto Route 609.

The Ford was driven by 73-year-old Phyllis Kessler of Natural Bridge. Kessler was wearing her seat belt and was not injured.

The 14-year-old boy riding his bike died at the scene of the crash. Police have identified him as Chandler Golding of Natural Bridge.

Rockbridge County Schools Superintendent Jack Donald says the boy went to school in the county.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Rockbridge Commonwealth’s Attorney will review the investigation to determine if any charges will be placed.

Police are investigating a deadly crash in Rockbridge County Friday night, according to the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the crash happened on Route 609 North near Route 11. At one point, the road was closed.

We are told the crash did involve a car and a bicycle.

We have a crew on the scene. Police have not provided any further information about the crash at this time.
