Police respond to stabbing at Bedford residence

BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) - The Bedford Police Department say that a woman has been stabbed in a Bedford home at the 400 block of West King Street Thursday morning.

Police say that they responded to the residence at around 8 a.m. in the Town of Bedford.

When Police arrived at the scene they found Dewayne Eric Simmons, 34 of Bedford and Selena McMiller-Simmons, 46 of Bedford inside the residence.

Dewayne Simmons then tried to escape by running on foot out of the residence to a wooded area across from Crenshaw Street.

Police say with the assistance of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, Dewayne Simmons was located and arrested.

Medics were called to the scene for McMiller-Simmons and was transported to the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Her condition is unknown at this time.

Officials say that Dewayne Simmons was transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Center where he was charged with malicious wounding and obstruction and is currently being held without bond at that facility.

Further charges are pending a complete investigation.
