UPDATE: Christiansburg man in custody after standoff

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) UPDATE

A man is now in custody following a standoff with law enforcement in Christiansburg.

No one was hurt.

Charges are pending against the man.

Christiansburg's public information officer says the man has not been charged with anything at this time. The sheriffs office went to the home around 11 a.m. to serve a civil notification, and the man exited to his back porch, where he began threatening to harm himself. He was in possession of a handgun. As a precaution, neighbors in the residences immediately surrounding the home were evacuated.

Law enforcement officers are on the scene in Christiansburg as part of a standoff.

There's been a heavy police presence Thursday morning at Oak Tree Townhomes on Providence Boulevard. Part of Providence Boulevard is closed, even to residents.

There is a man who has barricaded himself inside a home and is threatening to hurt himself.

A neighbor on the scene tells us police were trying to serve an eviction notice.

Police are working toward a peaceful ending.
