LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) When it comes to vegetables and Halloween, it can mean only one thing: Pumpkin carving.
The folks at Blue Phoenix Market and Café in Lexington had a party Saturday, and the Lexington Collaboratory is having a carving fest Thursday night.
But, being a health food store and café, Blue Phoenix says there’s nothing wrong with carving your pumpkin and eating it too.
“You just got to make sure, if you are planning on cooking whatever pumpkin you carve, you get all of the wax out if you’re using real candles and keep it in a cool spot so it doesn’t get any mold and ickiness on the inside," says Amenie Hopkins of the Blue Phoenix. "But yeah, you could absolutely use a pie pumpkin as a Jack O Lantern and then eat it later.”
There’s also a spooky pumpkin walk Saturday at Boxerwood Gardens, just outside Lexington.
You can learn more about the Collaboratory on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/lexmakerspace/
The Boxerwood walk starts at 4 pm Saturday. You can learn more at their website: https://boxerwood.org/event/pumpkin-walk/
