SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI -- A rescue team in the U.S. saved six puppies and their mother after authorities received a call about dogs abandoned in cold weather next to a road in Springfield, Missouri.

The Rescue One team, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving animals, volunteered to drive out and bring the animals back to safety after the phone call from a concerned citizen, the Greene County Sheriff's Office told Reuters in an email.

Video and photos taken by Deputy Sheriff Tommy Connell on Monday showed the puppies being put into a box on the side of the road and delivered safe and sound to Rescue One's facility, said the sheriff's office.

Currently being cared for at the rescue center, the puppies and their mother will remain there until they are healthy and ready to be adopted.
