RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Radford University is remembering a student killed last weekend in a car accident.

The school was the site of a candlelight vigil walk to celebrate Wilson Herrarte's life.

The 19-year-old freshman was hit and killed in a pedestrian crosswalk early Saturday morning in Richmond while visiting friends who go to Virginia Commonwealth University.

Students remembered his life by making signs and posters and sharing their favorite memories before releasing balloons.

"He was the funniest guy, that's all I've kept hearing,” organizer Sofia Rosales said. “I actually worked with a couple of his friends yesterday making posters for this event, and they just kept laughing and saying slogans that he would say or lies that he would constantly say."

CBS in Richmond says the person who hit him was a pizza delivery driver.

The driver was trying to go around a car that had stopped so Herrarte and his friends could cross the street.
