ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Roanoke College students made a lot of noise in the morning for a good cause. The students teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help a family in need.
More than 1,000 students will create the 12th R- House. All the incoming freshmen and transfer students pick up a hard hat, a hammer, and nails to help build the home. Over the next couple of days the students will put together the floors and walls.
"It's R house, not just R, but O-U-R. It's our community. It's the new place that they are living. This is the best way to get involved and to reach out to that community, and really make their mark here and the most of their time," said Daria Chicosky, Roanoke College Senior.
The refugee family who has been chosen will also contribute 300 hours of service towards the construction of the home. The Habitat for Humanity house will be located in northwest Roanoke.
