ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) Roanoke County is unveiling some big plans for a busy stretch of road. The county is kicking off its effort to reimagine Route 419. They hired a consultant to create a new master plan. That master plan is expected to take six months. The goal is to help revamp the road and about 400 acres in the area. That includes Tanglewood Mall, which is still up for sale.
Jill Loope, Roanoke County Economic Development Director, said, "This is a long term plan. It's not going to happen overnight. This is something that we all have to buy into together and to create this vision for a community."
Part of the updates include almost $6 million in road improvements. Among other improvements, it includes one additional outside lane southbound from Ogden Road to Route 220. The road improvements will take place in 2021.
The county will talk more about the plan at a kick-off event Thursday, September 15 at Holiday Inn Tanglewood from 6:30-8:30pm.
