Roanoke Star soccer team preparing for Gothia Cup in Sweden

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) The Gothia Cup is the largest junior soccer tournament in the world, and both a boy’s team and a girl’s team from the Roanoke Star Soccer Club will be showing of their skills on the international stage.

The Roanoke Star has been sending teams to compete in the event since 1992. The seven-day tournament in Sweden consists of more than 1,600 teams from more than 80 different countries.

Both teams will be competing in the age 15-and-under division. There will be three pool matches, and at least one playoff game.

Players and coaches will head overseas on Saturday.
