VINTON, Va. (WDBJ7) -- This time next year, the Roanoke Valley will have two major ice rinks.
You may remember the storm in the 1990's that damaged the Lancerlot Sports Complex in Vinton. But now, Penalty Box Partners has purchased the building and want to bring an ice rink back to the recreation center.
They hope to start construction in January or February 2018.
Freedom First Credit Union is helping the company to fund the project and everyone involved sees it as a positive economic impact in the town of Vinton.
"Excited that the Lancerlot will be reinvested in Vinton. I know the town is very excited for that to happen. The partners are really excited to bring a second sheet of ice to town and provide another venue for any ice hockey, figure skating or recreation. I think people are going to love it," says Steve Hildebrand of Freedom First Credit Union.
The owners hope to have the rink complete by fall 2018.
