ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Roanoke City's Stormwater Division is reminding folks to make sure you take care of the leaves in your yard.
They urge people to either 'mulch mow' it by running a lawn mower through them, or bagging leaves and putting them out for the city to pick up. When it rains, the leaves can move into storm drains, which can cause problems down the line.
Leigh Anne Weitzenfeld, Roanoke City Stormwater Division, said, “It can clog things up, especially if there's other debris in there with it. Sticks, branches can cause things to really clog up and then there's localized flooding which can occur on city streets and that isn't fun for anyone.”
The city is holding leaf collections several days- November 13, November 27th and the first two Mondays in December. They must be in biodegradable paper leaf bags.
