Roanoke man dies in Franklin County crash

FRANKLIN CO., Va.-- A Roanoke man has died has after a vehicle accident in Franklin County Saturday.

Virginia State Police responded to Route 40 (Old Franklin Turnpike) near Route 703 at 4:44 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a two vehicle accident.

According to police, Anthony Sanzo, 83, of Roanoke, was driving his 2002 Toyota Camry west on Route 40 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, lost control, and crossed the center line hitting a 2015 Kia Optima driven by Teresa Lynn Ward, 51, of Roanoke.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, Sanzo, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, police said.

Ward and her passenger, Gina Michelle Trent, 47, of Lexington, were both wearing their seat belts and were taken by EMS for their injuries.

Virginia State Police is still investigating.
