It happened around 9:45 a.m. Friday at an apartment in the 1600 block Queen Ann Drive SE.

When police arrived, officers found 32-year-old Timothy Duncan of Roanoke lying in the street. He was shot in his chest and leg. He died at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital at 10:15 a.m.

When WDBJ7 spoke with neighbors Friday morning, it seems as if the man who was shot and his wife came outside and were speaking with a man in car. The couple apparently knew the man in the car. Words were exchanged, shots were fired, and then the man hopped back in the car and drove off.

At the scene, police gathered information about a suspect vehicle. They stopped a car after the shooting around 9:50 a.m. at the intersection of 12th Street and Dale Avenue. Police questioned several people in the car. One person was arrested and a firearm was recovered.

Jonathan Gurley, 33, of Roanoke has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Gurley was taken to Roanoke City Jail.

Police are investigating whether the other people in the car were involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
