ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) According to the Roanoke Police Department, a man was taken into custody after they say he robbed the Apple Market in the 3300 block of Orange Avenue Northeast Sunday evening.
Police say they responded to an alarm call at Apple Market around 9:58 p.m. Sunday where they discovered a robbery had happened. According to Roanoke police, a man entered the store with his hand under his shirt. The man ordered the store clerk to open the cash register, where he proceeded to grab an amount of cash. Roanoke police say the man ran away from the store and headed west on Orange Avenue.
At around 10:03 p.m., Roanoke police say they located a man on Seibel Drive who matched the description of the man who had robbed the Apple Market. When police approached the man, they say he ran away and police started chasing him. They eventually caught the man and he was taken into custody.
According to Roanoke police, when the man was placed into the police car, they noticed he was having a medical issue. Roanoke Fire EMS arrived to the scene and the man was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Roanoke police say they located the stolen cash from the Apple Market and drug paraphernalia on his person.
According to the Roanoke Police Department, the man had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for threats over the phone as well as an Emergency Protective Order.
Police say they also obtained a warrant for the robbery at the Roanoke Apple Market. Police say the warrants and protective order will be served after the man is released from the hospital.
The identity of the man will also be released after the warrants are served.
