ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) A Roanoke shelter just completed a shoe drive that will help keep their doors open.

Roanoke Area Ministries acquired more than 300 bags of shoes. Forty cents from every pound collected will go toward operating expenses. This will provide them with more than $3,000 and the shelter says it's coming at an important time

"Our contributions actually fall off after he holidays and we're actually thinking we may not get as much for the holidays because people contribute for our summer campaign so it's important to have this money to get us through the Winter," Martha Snidow, volunteer coordinator, said.

The shoes will be sent overseas to help people start businesses.
