Robert E. Lee memorial in downtown Roanoke vandalized

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) - The Roanoke City Police are investigating the vandalism of the Robert E. Lee memorial in downtown Roanoke.

Police say they were notified early Thursday morning at around 5 a.m.

The memorial was vandalized with spray paint and motor oil according to Roanoke Police Spokesman, Scott Leamon.

Maintenance crews have been called to the scene for cleanup.
