SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) Southwest Virginia will now be on the national stage as a direct result of controversial legislation in North Carolina.
Roanoke College and the City of Salem will host the Division 3 men's and women's college soccer championships. Those games were originally in North Carolina, but the NCAA withdrew them after HB2.
They'll now be played on campus and use the brand new Cregger Center for support.
"It's a big deal for the area, Roanoke especially," City Of Salem Tourism Director Carey Harveycutter said. "Scott Allison, the athletic director, is a big soccer guy. It's a really big deal for Scott, for everybody up there. To show off your brand new facility to a national audience it really doesn't get any better than that."
The Men's and Women's championships are set for Dec. 2 and 3.
