Runners gather to honor deputy's memory

HILLSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ)- Runners took there mark this morning in Carroll County.

A memorial run for Deputy Curtis Bartlett was held Saturday morning in Hillsville.

“He's an inspiration to a lot of people in the community he was a great inspiration he loved running, and working with machinery, just a heck of a good guy, this is a great way to honor him," said Carroll County Sheriff John Gardner.

More than 100 people showed up to honor Bartlett’s legacy.

The agency raised more than $6,000 for the scholarship fund also in his name.

“Some child or several children from Carroll County High School and Galax High School with scholarships to go to college and once they graduate from high school and pursue a career in criminal justice,” said Gardner.
