SOVAH Health opens up temporary flu clinic

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Due to the rising number of flu cases on the southside, SOVAH Health in Danville has opened up a temporary flu clinic.

A trailer sits right outside the emergency room entrance of the hospital.

Patients can check in at the emergency room if they have flu-like symptoms.

Hospital staff say it's important to keep those with the flu separate from other patients of the hospital so the flu doesn't spread.

"This has been one of the worst flu seasons to date. I think that we could all agree on that. We want to try to minimize the exposure to our immune-suppressed patients, our elderly patients, and our really really young folks as well," says the director of the emergency department, Dr. Meredith Sutton.

Sutton says just in the last few weeks the number of cases has doubled in Danville.

They've had 150 cases of the flu in the last two weeks.
