School lifts lockdown after false shots fired call in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG Va. (WDBJ7) Two schools are off lockdown after police say a truck backfiring was mistaken for gunfire.

Heritage High School and Heritage Elementary School were placed on lockdown just after 10 a.m. Friday while the incident was investigated.

Within minutes, police determined that a work truck traveling through the intersection of Timberlake Road and Wards Ferry Road had backfired three times.

The lockdown was lifted just before 10:15 a.m.
