School releases statement after 6-year-old boy dies in sledding accident

AXTON, Va. (WDBJ7)-- An elementary school in Martinsville released a statement Friday regarding the death of one of their students.

6-year-old Aaron Frias-Alvarez died Thursday after he was hit by a car while sledding outside of his home in Henry County.

Elizabeth Minter, principal at Mt. Olivet Elementary in Martinsville, says Aaron was a kindergarten student at the school.

Minter released a statement from the school Friday stating: "The Mt. Olivet Elementary family is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our students. Aaron will be missed by his classmates and school family."
