LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Police are expanding their search for the man who escaped from a jail in Lynchburg.

James Pavlis crawled under a fence at the Blue Ridge Regional jail Monday morning, according to a statement released by the Lynchburg Police Department Monday.

Investigators say Pavlis has a violent past and should be considered dangerous. He has a tattoo on his neck that says "Loyalty."

In an email Tuesday, Lynchburg Police Department spokesperson Malcolm Booker confirmed the search area for Pavlis has expanded, but did not specify where officers are concentrating their efforts.

Pavlis is originally from Danville and police say he could be in that area.
