UPDATE: Severe weather leaves more than 20,000 without power

UPDATE:
Around 30 power crews are assisting Appalachian Power employees to restore power in areas heavily affected by Sunday's storm.

According to Appalachian Power, about 20,000 customers were in the dark following Sunday's storm.

As of 1 p.m. Monday, around 15,200 people are still without power in the Virginia Service area. Appalachian Power says about 14,000 of those are in Lynchburg, Amherst and Campbell Counties. Lynchburg has around 10,000 outages.

Appalachian Power hopes to have power restored to customers in Lynchburg, Amherst and Campbell Counties by midnight Wednesday. They hope to restore power in the Lovingston area by 6 p.m. Thursday. In other areas, Appalachian Power will try to have power restored by midnight tonight.

Many of people in our region have been left without power do to the destruction from the severe weather.

Appalachian Power is reporting over 18,000 customers without power.
