BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) A school in Blacksburg is opening its doors to the community so it can continue to serve kids.

The Blacksburg New School is hosting its annual Shopping Day Saturday.

Crafts and art vendors from the New River Valley will set up in the school.

Part of the sales go to benefit the school.

It gives students a chance to learn about the economy in a relaxed setting outside the classroom and see the impact their school has on the community.

"They come here and see the sales going on, they see the people making sales," said Chris Valluzzo, a Blacksburg New School parent. "It teaches them the beauty of community and coming together to support something that both the parents, teachers, and the students love."

The school is a non-profit parent teacher cooperative that teaches kids through eighth grade.
