LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) From preparation, to relief. As damage from the storm is being assessed in Florida, local groups continue to help out.
Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia has had crews from our area down in Houston responding to Harvey damage. Now they are switching gears and getting ready to travel to Florida. From feeding communities, to clearing out homes- hundreds of Virginians are expected to volunteer.
“We anticipate that within the week that we'll be sending teams down uh likely starting with feeding teams and chainsaw teams, and then following that with flood recovery teams and incident management teams,” said Mark Gauthier, State Disaster Relief Director for SBC of Virginia.
The SBC also collects encouraging letters to homeowners that they hand out while they are there. They want to help emotionally, as well as physically.
