DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) A special committee in Danville is talking sports tourism.
The mayor's sports tourism committee held its third meeting Wednesday after travelling to Rocky Mount, North Carolina for a field trip a few weeks ago.
Today the committee discussed building a brand new city track for use by several area schools.
They plan to take a proposal to city council in the coming weeks.
"We need a first-class, up-to-date track that's capable of not only high school meets, but college meets," says Sports Tourism Committee Chairman, Dr. Gary Miller.
The committee also discussed obtaining a feasibility study to look into an indoor/outdoor sports complex as well as a sports tourism director position for the city.
