Virginia State Police are investigating a self-inflicted fatal shooting in Washington County.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a domestic situation on Alvarado Road. When deputies arrived they were confronted by a male subject.
While attempting to calm the man down, deputies say he pulled out a handgun and shot himself.
According to state police, none of the Washington County deputies on scene discharged a firearm and were not injured in the altercation.
State police are still investigating the incident.
The subject’s remains have been transported to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for autopsy.
