Staunton man wanted in connection to shooting arrested

STAUNTON, Va. (WDBJ7) A man that was wanted in connection to a shooting in Staunton has been arrested.

Orion Jeffrey Painter was arrested without incident by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office Thursday.

Painter was wanted on second degree murder charges. Police believe Painter is responsible for the death of Melanie Wade, who died at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville on February 24th.

Police say family member, Deborah Bennett was found with Painter at the time of his arrest.

Painter is currently being held without bail at Middle River Regional Jail.

The investigation of the murder of Wade is still ongoing.
