ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Traffic will be slowed down on exits 141 and 143 on Interstate 81 overnight Friday and Saturday.

Appalachian Power will be removing existing transmission wire from aging wood structures and installing upgraded wire between two new steel monopole towers.

Work is expected to take place between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Once complete, the line will connect to the Catawba Substation on Loch Haven Rd. This work is part of Appalachian Power's $30 million Roanoke Area Switching Improvements Project to enhance electric reliability to residential, commercial and industrial customers.
