Telephone scam targeting grandparents in Pulaski

PULASKI, Va. (WDBJ) Another telephone scam is targeting grandparents and this time the Pulaski Police Department says it may be more convincing than previous scams.

According to police, a phone scammer calls grandparents and claims to be their grandchild. The scammer continues to say that they have been in an accident and arrested in a different country.

The scammer begs the grandparent not to tell their parents, then ask for bail and connect the grandparent to speak with an authority (police, U.S. Embassy member, etc.). The “authority” will explain how the government will wire money to their grandchild and answer any of the grandparent’s questions.

If you or someone you know has fallen for this scam, contact the Pulaski Police Department at 540-994-8680.
