Thousands of Appalachian Power customers without power due to heavy winds

(WDBJ7) A spokesperson for Appalachian Power says about 1,000 customers in Virginia are without power due to downed wire and broken power poles from heavy winds. Around 300 customers are without power in Carroll County, 300 in Smyth County and 300 in the Roanoke area.

Crews are currently making repairs and working to restore power.

Around 4,000 customers were without power around 8 a.m. The majority of those customers have since had their power restored. Customers were without service in Lovingston, Lynchburg, Rocky Mount, Moneta, Roanoke, Smyth County and Carroll County.
