ROANOKE, Va (WDBJ7) -- It looks like Roanoke is the place to bet your luck. Three Roanoke residents recently won major Virginia Lottery prizes.
Lorlene Davis won $100,000 in the July 11th eXTRA Chances Promotion drawing.
When she checked her voicemail, there was a message from the Virginia Lottery saying her ticket had been drawn.
“I just nearly passed out!” the Roanoke woman said.
Ms. Davis said the prize will help send her daughter to college in August.
The next grand prize drawing will be held on August 1 with a $100,000 grand prize. The deadline to enter is July 31.
Another big winner was Andrew Mageros.
The Roanoke man bought eight tickets for the Virginia Lottery’s Pirate’s Loot game and took them home to scratch.
One of those tickets won the game’s $200,000 top prize.
He didn't celebrate right away. Instead, he and his fiancée carefully examined the ticket until they were satisfied it actually was a $200,000 winner.
“Then we jumped up and down!” he said.
Mr. Mageros is the second player to claim the top prize in this game, which means two top prizes remain unclaimed.
He bought the winning ticket at Stop In Food, 4111 Franklin Road in Roanoke.
The odds of winning that top prize are 1 in 1,040,400.
Mr. Mageros said he hopes to put the winnings towards helping to pay off his mortgage.
The third Roanoke winner, Tracy Penn, won $100,000.
You can bet she won’t forget the numbers 1-3-4-7-9 any time soon. Those are the numbers the woman used to win $100,000 in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game.
She said she played those particular numbers after a friend told her those numbers appeared in a dream. She played them in the June 25th day drawing, and they all matched the winning numbers.
She bought her winning ticket at Cove Mart, 1723 Cove Road in Roanoke.
Ms. Penn said she has no immediate plans for her winnings.
Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.
Congratulations to all three winners!
