Tourism revenue increases in Martinsville, Henry County

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Tourism is having a big impact on Martinsville and Henry County.

From 2014 to 2015, tourism revenue jumped over 2.5 percent. The local tourism industry helps support over 700 jobs.

"It's just a positive sign of the momentum that's happening, we want to keep that rolling," Director of Tourism Jennifer Doss said.

Piedmont Arts and the Smith River Sports Complex played a big part in those numbers. But leaders say it's a community effort.

" I feel like it's important for Piedmont Arts again to highlight various cultures, to bring the world to our community," Executive Director of Piedmont Arts Kathy Rogers said.

The push to put on local local events that bring in people from around the state is helping. That includes tomorrow's wine festival at the sports complex. Tickets are still available.
