ORIGINAL STORY

A tractor-trailer hit a Bedford County building, catching both on fire Thursday morning.

Route 122, also known as Moneta Road, is closed in both directions near Morgans Church Road. That's roughly 10 miles south of Route 460.

The tractor-trailer fell through into the basement of the Smith Mountain Lake Good Neighbors building, according to the Forest Fire Department. It happened before 6 a.m.

The driver is unaccounted for as of 8:45 a.m., but authorities do not yet know of any injuries. They think he may be in the cab or basement. The fire marshal will start searching the truck first.

The building was empty at the time. During the summer, up to nine people sometimes stay in the building.

Crews have been able to remove the cab from the building.

State police do not yet know the identity of the driver.

There is a detour in place a couple of miles away from the scene.

Northbound truck traffic is being diverted onto Route 24, and onto Route 220. Southbound truck traffic is being diverted from Route 220, onto Route 24, and back onto Moneta Road.

Northbound car traffic is being diverted onto Route 655, Route 616, Route 757, Route 806, and back onto Moneta Road. Southbound car traffic is being diverted onto Route 806, Route 757, Route 616, Route 655 and then back onto Moneta Road.

There is no estimate at this time for when the road will re-open.
